                                RECIPES OF PHILIPPINES

Empanadas (Meat)

 

Ingredients

2 cups

1/2 tsp

2/3 cup

Flour (all purpose)

Salt

Shortening

Water

Yellow onion

Green bell pepper

Olive oil

Tomato paste

Water

Distilled white vinegar

Lean steak (cut into 1 inch cubes)

Method
  1. Use a medium size mixing bowl to combine the flour and salt
  2. Cut in the shortening till pieces are the size of small peas and add a little water to slightly moisten
  3. Form dough into a ball
  4. Roll out the dough to about 1/8 inch thick and cut into 4 inch circles
  5. Lightly flour both sides of the circles
  6. Use a medium skillet and saute the onion and green pepper in olive oil
  7. Add tomato paste, water and vinegar and cook for 20 minutes
  8. Add meat and coat thoroughly with the sauce
  9. Put a large spoonful of the above mixture on the center of a dough circle
  10. Place another circle on top
  11. Fasten the two dough circles together by pressing the edges with a fork
  12. Bake in a preheated 175 degrees C until golden brown

Apples (pealed, cored and sliced)

White sugar

Cinnamon (grounded)

Nutmeg (grounded)

Method
  1. Use a medium size mixing bowl to combine the flour and salt
  2. Cut in the shortening till pieces are the size of small peas and add a little water to slightly moisten
  3. Form dough into a ball
  4. Roll out the dough to about 1/8 inch thick and cut into 4 inch circles
  5. Lightly flour both sides of the circles
  6. Use a saucepan to combine fruit, sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg
  7. Heat over medium heat until hot, mixing thoroughly
  8. Put a large spoonful of the above mixture on the center of a dough circle
  9. Place another circle on top
  10. Fasten the two dough circles together by pressing the edges with a fork
  11. Bake in a preheated 175 degrees C until golden brown
