Yogurt Fish

 

Ingredients

500 gm

2 cups

Fish (rahu or hilsa preferably)

Yoghurt/curd (blended smooth)

Mustard oil

Flour

Bay leaf .

Cinnamon

Cardamom

Ginger (ground to paste)

Onion (ground to paste)

Red chilly powder

Turmeric powder

Cumin powder

Sugar

Salt (adjust to taste)

Method
  1. Cut fish onto cubes, or as traditional cross-section and roll pieces separately in flour

  2. Heat 2 tbsp of oil

  3. Fry fish till pale golden, then drain and keep aside

  4. Add remaining oil and fry bay leaf, cardamom and cinnamon

  5. Add ginger, onion, chilli powder turmeric and cumin (A little water may be added if it becomes too dry)

  6. Fry for a while and add blended yoghurt/ curd

  7. Simmer on slow fire till oil comes up on top

  8. Add fish with a little water, salt and sugar

  9. Simmer till gravy is thick golden
