Urad Dal Gosht (Lentils with Lamb)

 

Ingredients

1/2 kg

1 cup

1 medium

1-2

1/4 tsp

1/2 tsp

1/4 tsp

1/4 tsp

3 tbsp

Mutton

Urad (or substitute) lentils  (pre-soaked)

Onion (chopped)

Green peppers (chopped in small pieces) (for garnishing)

Turmeric powder

Red chilli powder

Garam masala

Ginger paste

Oil

Lemon juice

Fresh corriander leaves (for garnishing)

Salt (adjust to taste)

Method
  1. Put oil in a pot and when the oil gets hot, add the chopped onions to it and fry until golden brown
  2. Add salt, turmeric powder and red chilli powder and fry masala for 2 -3 minutes by adding a little water at a time (to prevent from burning)
  3. Now add the mutton to this masala and constantly stir until all water dries
  4. Then add the dal. (not the water, the dal only)
  5. And add 2 glasses of warm fresh water to the dal and mix
  6. Cover pot on low heat and let the meat cook
  7. When the meat has tenderized and dal has softened, add the ginger paste and garam masala and mix
  8. Garnish with corriander leaves and green peppers and serve with lemon
