Spicy Daal

 

Ingredients

2 cups

1 tsp

Daal
Peppers
Green chillies
Ghee
Turmeric powder
Garam masalah
Ginger + garlic paste
Onions (cut to slices)
Tomatoes (cut into small cubes)

Cinnamon (one inch pieces)

Water as requirad

Salt (adjust to taste)

Fresh carder (for garnishing) (optional)

Mint leaves (for garnishing) (optional)

Lemons (for garnishing) (optional)

Red chilli powder (adjust to taste)

Method
  1. Soak the daal in water over night
  2. Put it in a pot, add water enough to make it tender
  3. Add salt, red chilli powder, turmeric powder, peppers, cinnamon and green cillies to it
  4. Boil until the daal becomes tender and homogeneous with water  (When boiling daal with steel utensil, do not stir, otherwise the daal will turn hard)
  5. In a frying pan, take ghee, add onion slices on melting and fry till they get light brown
  6. Add ginger and garlic paste to it
  7. After a short while add tomatoes, a pinch of salt and red chillies and fry till the mixture turns into a smooth gravy
  8. Add the mixture to the boiling daal and stir with any wooden spoon
  9. Dish out and garnish with garam masalah, carder, mint leaves and lemon slices

Serve with rice or chapati
