Naan

 

Ingredients

1/4 oz

4 tbsp

1 cup

4 1/2 cup

1/4 cup

Active dry yeast

White sugar

Warm water

Beaten egg

Milk

Salt

Bread flour

Melted butter

Method
  1. In a large bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water until frothy
  2. Stir in sugar, milk, egg, salt, and enough flour to make a soft dough
  3. Knead for 6 to 8 minutes on a lightly floured surface, or until smooth
  4. Place dough in a well oiled bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and set aside to rise
  5. Let it rise until the dough has doubled in volume
  6. Pinch off small amounts of dough to make 12 to 14 pieces and roll into balls, and allow to rise again
  7. While the dough is rising, preheat grill to high
  8. At grill side, roll one ball of dough out into a thin circle
  9. Lightly oil grill and place dough on grill, and cook for 2 to 3 minutes, or until puffy and lightly browned
  10. Brush uncooked side with butter, and turn over
  11. Brush cooked side with butter, and cook until done, another 2 to 4 minutes
  12. Remove from grill, and continue cooking until all the naan has been prepared
