Malvani Fish Curry

Ingredients

Boneless fish (river fish)

Cumin seeds

Coriander seeds

Dried red chillies

Onions (medium-sized)

Grated coconut

Peppercorns

Oil

Tamarind pulp

Tomato (medium-sized)

Salt (adjust to taste)

Turmeric powder (a pinch)

Method
  1. Lightly roast cumin seeds and coriander seeds
  2. Grind them into a powder with dried red chillies and turmeric
  3. Cut boneless fish into one inch sized cubes
  4. Apply salt.
  5. Apply ground chilli, turmeric, coriander and cumin masala
  6. Peel onions and chop one onion
  7. Grind the other onion with grated coconut and peppercorn into a coarse paste
  8. Finely chop tomato and keep aside
  9. Heat oil in a pan and add chopped onions
  10. Sauté till onions turn pink
  11. Add chopped tomatoes and cook till oil leaves the sides
  12. Mix in ground coconut masala paste and cook on a high flame for a minute
  13. Add two cups of water and bring it to a boil
  14. Add fish pieces and cook on medium flame for five to six minutes
  15. Dissolved  tamarind in a quarter cup of water and stir in
  16. Simmer for five minutes
