Goan Sambharachi Kodi (Goan Prawn Curry)
 

 

Ingredients

Peeled prawns
Dried prawns
Onions
Coconuts (grated)
Bilimbis
Mango seeds (padde)
Ginger
Garlic
Green chillies
Sugar (optional)
Maggi cubes
Oil
Goan sambhar masala

Walnut sized ball of tamarind
Salt (adjust to taste)

Method
  1. Mix the dried and fresh prawns together, salt and keep aside

  2. Slice the bilimbis, add a handful of salt and let it drain

  3. Heat 2 tablespoons of oil in a pan

  4. Crush the ginger and garlic and fry over slow fire in the heated oil

  5. Slice the onions, and fry along with the ginger and garlic, till brown

  6. Remove the mixture in a bowl and keep aside

  7. Fry the blimbis in the remaining oil in the pan till they change color

  8. Remove from the pan and keep aside

  9. Add ginger and garlic and fried onions back to the pan

  10. Add the prawns, mango seeds and green chillies and fry

  11. Extract thick coconut juice and keep aside

  12. Then take about 1½ litre of thin juice

  13. Take 4 to 5 tbsp of the above sambhar masala and blend well with the thin coconut juice

  14. Add it to the prawn mixture in the pan and let it boil well for about half an hour

  15. Then add the thick coconut juice, bilimbis, sugar, maggi cubes and ½ cup tamarind water

  16. Let the mixture cook well

  17. Add salt and sugar if necessary
