Pebya Kha-O (Tofu and Turnip Saute)

 

Ingredients

1

3 tbsp

1 small

1/4 cup

1 tsp

2 tsp

1/4 tsp

1/2 tsp

1/4 tsp

1 small

Chinese tofu cake

Corn or peanut oil

Onion (sliced)

Ripe tomato (fresh or canned, chopped)

Fresh hot green chili (thin-sliced)

Soy sauce

Cumin seed (grounded)

Salt

Water

Rutabaga ( Swedish turnips) (peeled, cut into 1/4-inch-thick slices)

 

Method :
  1. Cut the tofu into 5 rectangles about 1 inch wide, 2 inches long and 1/4 inch thick
  2. Dry them well on paper towels
  3. Heat a dry skillet for 1 minute, then add the oil
  4. Fry the tofu over moderate heat to a light-brown on both sides and remove and set aside
  5. Remove all but 1 tablespoon oil
  6. Brown the onion in the oil over moderate heat for 2 minutes
  7. Add the rutabaga slices and stir fry for 2 minutes
  8. Add the tomato, chili, soy sauce, cumin seed, and salt and stir fry for 1 minute
  9. Add the water, cover the skillet, and cook for 5 minutes
  10. Add the tofu, stir for a moment, cover the skillet, and cook for 3 minutes more

Serve warm with bread
